RipTide Woes Continue
Jul 21, 2008
New York, New York --
Last Sunday amidst perfect baseball weather the New York RipTide once again faced the Longhorns which appear to quickly be turning into a fine rivalry. The game, played at the RipTide home beach Governors field, was hard fought but it turned out that one innings errors cost the tide the opportunity for another very important win. The Final score 3 to 7.
Boxscore

2 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 3 7 6
Dan Litt threw a gem in his first start of the 2008 season. He went all 9 innings, allowed only 7 hits and 1 earned run, with 5 Ks and 6 BBs. It wasn’t until the third inning that the Longhorns were able to mount a threat. Unfortunately for the good guys the Longhorns were able to score seven runs during the course of the game runs, all but one caused by missteps on the field. The defense did have some bright spots however with 3 double plays and some pretty nifty glove work from Brian Gibbs, Jonathan Mandel and Joe Valentin.
In the 9th we ended the inning with bases loaded on a back-pick at 2nd base by Campoverde . Mandel got the runner from second base into a run down and then fired back home to get the runner at third caught in a pickle that resulted in caught stealing from the catcher to shortstop back to the catcher who threw to Vega at third who then fired it over to Valentin for the final out…get all that?
Offensively, the boys continued to hit well with Jonathan Mandel having the best offensive day, going 2 for 4 plus a HP, with an RBI and a SB. Joe Valentin went 2 for 5 with a double. Dan Nauth went 1 for 3 with 2 BB. Brian Gibbs had 2 BB, 1 HP and an RBI but went 0 for 2. We could just not get the big hit at the right time. The Tide tied the game in the bottom of the 1st and, made it a 7-3 game in the bottom of the 4th, but we had bases loaded with no out and could not get another across. Overall, seventeen RipTide runners were left to die on the bases!!!
We lost the game in one big inning. On a much brighter note the team is coming together very well on the defensive side of the ball. It won’t take long before everything falls into place and playoff dreams are realized.
Next game is on Saturday, July 19th against the Warriors at Governors Field.
It is ALWAYS a great time to CATCH THE WAVE!!!
