Front Office Prepares For Camp
Nov 17, 2009
Yonkers, New York --
The celebrations are over, the tickertape has been swept up, and the stadium now sits quiet, as the New York Yankees prepare for a long winter, but the work for 2010 New York RipTide season is just beginning.
It’s almost winter workouts for the tide as the NASPBA’s New York RipTide are scheduled to hold their first official practice of training camp in less than eight weeks. The front office is busy preparing for camp and the season as if it were to begin tomorrow. “The season comes upon us very quickly” said Managing Director Jonathan Zeron. “It was just yesterday that I was out scouting new players and personnel”
The RipTide will open training camp this season on Saturday, January 9th at De Witt Clinton. Unlike previous years the RipTide will open a joint training camp and invite position players to report along with pitchers and catchers. The new format change comes as the New York Rip Tide begins their first season in the AA division of the NYCMBL, who opens their season one month earlier than most other leagues in the metropolitan area. The team is also moving away from an open tryout format and will conduct a closed training camp this season in order to focus on its current players and positions while inviting scouted prospects in smaller groups to see how they fit in with the current club.
The RipTide will open the preliminary season with two exhibition games against De Witt Clinton in March. The regular season opens Saturday, April 3.
