Governors Field To Get A Facelift
Dec 19, 2009
Yonkers, New York --
New York RipTide players and fans have had the pleasure of enjoying a great experience when playing at Governors Field, but that atmosphere is about to take a dramatic step forward.
The New York RipTide today announced the long overdue renovation of the Governors Field Complex. Opened in 1928 Governor's Field was constructed as a multi use facility for De Witt Clinton High School. The facility built on 9 acres in the Bronx along the Jerome Park Reservoir houses Baseball, Softball, Football, Soccer, Track & Field and Handball. It is the largest facility of its kind in the Bronx and the only one with a full time grounds crew and team clubhouse facilities. Periodically upgraded over time this renovation will be the first full scale renovation of the facility in over 40 years.
Phase One: Scheduled to start in April includes the removal of the outdated Astroturf and running track, laying of a new drainage line to the baseball/football field, renovation to the track and field facility including the installation of new FieldTurf over the existing soccer field and a world class rubberized running track.
Phase Two: Scheduled to start in late June includes the installation of a drainage system, leveling of the baseball/football field and new sod. Additionally, the fencing will be replaced all around the field along with a new removable outfield fence, new batting cage, dugouts, upgrades to the clubhouse and sound system.
“This renovation has been in the works for over 5 years” said team Managing Director Jonathan Zeron “It will be tough because it comes right in the middle of our 2010 season but the result will be worth it.” The project is slated to take 18 months but should be finished before the RipTide 2011 campaign.
