Tide To Open Camp Next Week

Jan 1, 2010
Yonkers, New York --
It has been two years since the New York RipTide has had a bid for a championship, but the team is ready to put an end to its drought. It all begins in 9 days as 40 players report to training camp and officially kick off Spring Training for the 2010 season.

Full workouts won't begin until January 9th, when pitchers and catchers report along with position players to Spring Training at DeWitt Clinton. However, talk about the season is already in full swing. “I’m eager to start throwing and start playing...I just hope something good happens this spring” said Starting Pitcher Jose Aquino. He is no stranger to these parts as Aquino has been here before as a DeWitt Clinton Alum.

Much of the core remains constant from how the club last took to the field, though there have been notable changes.

The return of left-hander Luke Walter after two years off the field and the promotion of Owen Kimmel will be among the most popular RipTide stories, and new prospects Delroy Cox, Fernando Suriel, and Joey Coschigano should give the added protection to the line up for Louis Campoverde and Joseph Valentin.

Meanwhile, many are curious to see the off season progress made by left-hander Jonathan Aponte, who is coming off shoulder surgery and to hear the final decision of Center Fielder Gabriel Garcia, who has been undecided in his return for another season in Columbia blue.

Though there will be many new faces it’s the faces of the vets that Manager Peter Wermuth should expect to bring it all together.

New York's first exhibition game is expected to take place on March 7th, and they open the season on Sunday, April 4th at 1:05PM.
