Tide Handcuffs The NYPD

May 2, 2010
Bronx, New York --
New York RipTide coaches Mike Larkin and Jonathan Zeron had about all the tension they could take during Sunday's doubleheader against Back to Back league champions and division rivals New York’s Finest at Governors Field.

Not only was their team taking on one of the best teams in New York City the Tide were coming off 4 canceled games due to weather. Previous league rivals the Tide have not met the Police department team in over 5 years, since they last played together in the Liga Puerto Rico.

The two game set couldn’t have been more opposite with the Tide winning the first game 2 to 1 in a pitchers match up and winning the second game 12 to 9 in a slugfest.

The Police struck first blood in the first game as O’sullivan got an RBI single scoring their only run of the game off Matt Nordsten, who went 5 1/3 innings for the win. The tide took the lead in the 4th inning off an RBI double by Ben Farias. That was all she rote as John Gennaoui came in for the 5 out save.

The second game was more slugfest as both teams answered each other frame for frame until the 5th inning with the score tied that rookie Owen Kimmel with bases loaded attempted a suicide squeeze on a ball heading to his head. “That ball was coming straight for my face” said Kimmel “I had planned to squeeze, but I used the bat just to keep from getting hit.” It was a trying moment for the Tide but the squeeze was on once again this time successfully scoring Luis Campoverde from third giving the Tide the lead for good for a final of 12 to 9.

The RipTide next play Latin Flavor. First pitch of Game 1 is expected at 12:05PM.
